HASH KNOWLEDGE

HASH IS LOVE, HASH IS LIFE

The history of hash is sticky and complex, just like the resin with which it has been composed. The intrigue is not lost on hash lovers who pursue the purest of resins from the most prestigious of sources in order to conceive of the most memorable experience.

Simply stated, hash is the collection of trichome heads. These are the glandular cells composed of a membrane wherein the cannabis plants resin's oil contents are stored. This is mainly made up of cannabinoids and terpenes, which is what allows for the near infinite iterations of odors, tastes and effects that originate from cannabis.

The quality of the hash is first and foremost determined by the quality of the material used in the collection process. The other variables vary greatly and is a process that is nuanced and learned over time. The end product can also be presented in many forms and each one has a benefit in the right context when the spirit of the culture is respected. Understanding the main distinctions in collecting resin are important and can be briefly explained below.

RESIN COLLECTION

We can breakdown the collection of resin using 2 general methods; with Solvents or without Solvents. A solvent, like butane or alcohol,is a substance that will collect the resin by homogenizing the oils and will then be purged out of the combined end product. We do not believe that solvents should be used in the processing of resin and therefore do not consider this hash. It may be commonly referred to as B.H.O. which stands for Butane Hash Oil. Our philosophy will always be B.H. No!

SOLVENT-LESS RESIN COLLECTION

The other ways of collecting resin can considered to retain the integrity of the essence of the plant by keeping the trichome heads intact throughout their process. There will always be new methods and debates around preferences, keeping an open mind is encouraged in order to asses how each variation works for themselves while understanding and respecting the benefits for others.

Dry Sift hash is the classic technique used around the world. This method is the result of mechanically removing the resin glands from the plant by sieving them with screens of different sizes, without any kind of solvent.

Water hash is the ever evolving hash method of resin separation using ice, water and agitation. Hash makers are always trying to perfect this process so that the trichome heads can be isolated which produces the cleanest, most translucent resin when done properly.
